Nikon Coolpix S220 digital camera review

If you don’t fancy the touchscreen interface of the S230, then the S220 is both more affordable and benefits from a longer battery life for losing the touchscreen on the back. But is this a compact camera worthy of consideration? Compact in form, measuring only 89.5 x 55.5 x 18mm, it shaves a couple of millimetres off its thickness by featuring a standard 2.5-inch LCD display on the back. The result is a 10-megapixel camera that is pretty well loaded, but won’t weigh down your pocket. The metal body also feels solid and well constructed making this a camera you won’t be scared to show off.

Sony Announces PSP LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm & Buzz

Any disappointment that the imminent closure of Sony's Go!Messenger service has just been well brought with it has been and truly eradicated. As rumoured, a PSP LittleBigPlanet game is, indeed, in development. Better still, SCEE isn't just bringing the (brilliant) LittleBigPlanet to its portable console, though. The MotorStorm franchise will also make a transition in the form of MotorStorm: Arctic Edge and, less interesting to me at least, Buzz will see a portable reworking.
Claims from SCEE that 2009 would be a good year for the PSP don't sound quite as far fetched now, do they? If you're not interested in seeing LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm on the PSP, then maybe a purple lilac console will do it for you. I actually quite like it, thought I doubt I could suffer the humiliation of buying a Hannah.

Your card reader has been canned

Gratitude to gadget leaders Brando, the modest memory card reader at the present comes in the form of a can while throwing in a trio of USB 2.0 ports for your convenience as well. Supported formats include SD, xD, Memory Stick, miniSD, and microSD (sans adapter), so Compact Flash folks are out of luck. This tiny device measures a mere 59mm x 59mm x 49mm and weighs 60 grams. You can pick one up today for $17. This makes a great traveling companion, as you can never have too many USB ports. Now I’m hungry for a tin of minestrone soup.

Panasonic launches new Blu-ray/DVD range

The Olympic games have historically been a big mover of home entertainment products, giving consumers that excuse to splash out on that new big screen TV, home theatre or recorder to enjoy the really soak up the two weeks of sporting highlights. Recognizing this Panasonic has announced that the DMR-BW500, the first stand alone Blu-Ray Disc Recorder to be launched outside Japan will be available just in time for the Games. The DMR-BW500i can record up to 72 hours of Full High Definition 1080p recording onto the built in 500GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or 6 hours 40 min on a 50GB double layer Blu-ray Disc. In addition to video, it can record 5.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound broadcasts and Blu-ray movies are played in studio-master quality at a frame rate of 24 frames per second.
The DMR-BW500 offers a twin DVB-T High Definition (HD) tuner with 1 second quick start for recording and support for 7-day Electronic Program Guide. Panasonic's intelligent VIERA Link offers single-remote control of Panasonic AV devices via HDMI and streamlining operation with features such as Pause Live TV, Direct TV Record and Auto Preset Download. The unit also features HDMI V.1.3, Deep Colour, DVB-T adaptive noise reduction, silence technology, 1080p Up-Conversion with HDMI and 7.1-channel surround sound of BD movies. It also supports the 'Bonus View' (formerly Final Standard Profile) Blu-ray standard and bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio and on-board decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS.
The Blu-ray Recorder's SD Card slot lets users with a Full High Definition SD (Secure Digital) Memory Card camcorder simply insert the SD card to play AVCHD home movies and then record to Blu-ray Disc, HDD or DVD without a PC. The SD Card slot can also play still JPEG images as a slide show on a TV while the USB terminal allows playback or archiving of JPEG and MP3 files directly from a USB storage device. Fast dubbing allows the unit to transfer a one-hour recording from the HDD to a Blu-ray Disc in as little as 15 minutes and backwards compatibility with DVDs and CDs as well as supporting recording and playback of BD-R/-R DL, BD-RE/-RE DL, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW, +R, +R DL and -RW discs means just about all bases are covered in the compatibility stakes.
For those without the desire, or bank balance, to upgrade to Blu-ray, Panasonic is also releasing a new line-up of DVD Recorders (for Australia) including the DMR-XW300 DVD Recorder, which can simultaneously record two HD channels with Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound onto the 250GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD). The new range also features three more DVD Recorders with SD Digital Tuners - the DMR-EX88 with 400GB HDD, the DMR-EX78 with 250GB HDD and the DMR-EZ48V, a combination DVD and VHS Recorder.
The new line of DVD and Blu-ray recorders and players are currently only available only in Japan but will be available in other markets in August.

Classic Cheese Pizza

Classic Cheese Pizza
Ingredients:
1 ounce Fresh Yeast or ½ ounce Dried Yeast
1 pint Sugar
14 ounces All-Purpose Flour (Maida)
1 tsp. Salt
Corn Meal
¾ pints Tomato & Garlic Sauce
1 pound Mozzarella Cheese (cut into ¼" dice)
6 tbsp. Parmesan Cheese (freshly grated)
½ pint Luke Warm Water
¼ pint Olive Oil (Zaitoon Ka Tail)
Directions:
1) Crumble the fresh yeast or sprinkle the dried yeast and a pinch of sugar into 3 tablespoons of lukewarm water. Be sure that the water is lukewarm (110 - 115 F.) - neither too hot nor too cold to the touch) Let it stand for 2 to 3 minutes, then stir the yeast and sugar into the water until completely dissolved. Put the cup in a warm, draught-free place for 3 to 5 minutes, until the yeast bubbles up and the mixture almost doubles in volume. If the yeast does not bubble, start over again with fresh yeast.
2) Sift the flour and salt into a large, warmed bowl. Make a well in the centre of the flour and pour in the yeast mixture, 3/8 pint of lukewarm water and 3 tablespoons of the olive oil. Mix the dough with a fork or your fingers. When you can gather it into a rough ball, place the dough on a floured board and knead it for about 15 minutes, until smooth, shiny and elastic. Dust the dough lightly with flour, put in a large clean bowl and cover. Place the bowl in a warm, draught-free spot for about 1 ½ hours, until the dough has doubled in bulk.
3) Now preheat the oven to 450 F. Punch the dough down with your fists and break off about one quarter of it to make the first of the 4 pizzas. Knead the small piece on a floured board or a table for a minute or so, working in a little flour if the dough seems sticky. Flatten the ball into a circle about 1 inch thick with the palm of your hand. Hold the circle in your hands and stretch the dough by turning the circle and pulling your hands apart gently at the same time.
4) When the circle is about 7 or 8 inches across, spread it out on the floured board again and pat it smooth, pressing together any tears in the dough. Then roll the dough with a rolling pin, from the centre to the far edge, turning it clockwise after each roll, until you have a circle of pastry about 10 inches across and about 1/8 inch thick. Crimp or flute the edge of the circle with your thumbs until it forms a little rim. Dust a large baking sheet lightly with corn meal and gently place the pizza dough on top of it. Knead, stretch and roll the rest of the dough into 3 more pizzas.
5) Pour 6 tablespoons of the tomato & garlic sauce on each pizza and spread it with a pastry brush or the back of a spoon. To make a cheese pizza, sprinkle the sauce with 6 tablespoons of mozzarella cheese and 2 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese . Dribble 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the pizza and bake it on the lowest shelf or the floor of the oven. Reduce the oven temperature to 400 F after 5 minutes and cook for about 10 minutes in all, until the crust is lightly browned and the filling bubbling hot.

Knead on floured surface until soft and elastic (about five minutes). Shape into ball and place in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a clean towel and place in a warm spot for about one hour. Punch down dough and reshape into ball. Cover and let sit another 20 minutes, or until it rises again. Punch down again. Refrigerate until ready to use.
3) Pour olive oil into large skillet and place over medium heat. Add tomatoes to the warm olive oil with the remaining ingredients, crushing whole tomatoes with your hands as you add them to the pan. Cook over medium-low heat, breaking up tomatoes with wooden spoon, until the sauce is thick, 40-50 minutes.
4) Roll out the dough and place on cookie sheets or pizza pans sprinkled with cornmeal. There is enough dough for two large thin crust pizzas. Pinch a lip along the edges. Top with sauce, cheese and your choice of pizza toppings, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with basil. Bake in 450F oven for 12 minutes.

Black Pepper Powder (Pisi Kaali Mirch) (to taste)
Cooking Oil
Directions:
1) Saute the onions and carrot in cooking oil. Add the chicken and mix. Then add the: cardamom seeds, cloves, cinnamon stick, cumin seeds, salt and black pepper and mix. Continue to fry until the chicken is half done.
2) When the chicken is half done, add the tomato puree and mix. Continue to cook over low heat with pot covered, until the chicken is well done.
3) Separately in a different pot, boil rice in water until cooked and drain.
4) Finally cover rice with chicken and spices and let cook covered on very low heat for 5 minutes. Serving Suggestions: Garnish with fried almonds and raisins on top for a most exquisite and delicious taste.

Chinese Rice

Chinese Rice
Ingredients:
1 cup White Rice (long grain or short grain)
1 ¾ cups Cold Water
Directions:
1) Put the dry rice in a large bowl, cover generously with cold water, then stir the rice in circles with your hand for 10-15 seconds, or until the water turns milky white. Drain the rice immediately into a large sieve or colander, then return the rice to the bowl, cover again with cold water, and repeat the process.
2) Do this 5 or 6 times, for a total of 3 to 4 minutes, by which time the rinsing water should be nearly clear. Stir with increased gentleness as you near the final rinsing, as the rice will absorb a bit of water in the process and be susceptible to breaking. Shake off any excess water, then proceed at once to cook the rice, or leave it to sit in the colander for up to an hour before cooking.
3) If you are cooking a single cup of raw rice, use a heavy 2 to 2 ½ quart pot with a tight-fitting lid. If you are doubling the recipe, use a heavy 4 to 4 ½ quart lidded pot. The general rule with rice is to use a pot with more depth than breadth as you go to cook larger amounts, lest the water evaporate too quickly during the cooking.
4) Put the rinsed and well-drained rice in the pot, then add the appropriate amount of cold water for the grain and the amount of rice you are using. Do not bother to stir the rice, now or anytime during cooking. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat. When the big starchy bubbles climb nearly to the rim, in about 30 seconds, cover the pot at once with a tight-fitting lid and reduce the heat to low. What you want inside the pot is a slow, bubbly simmer, which requires either a low or moderately low setting depending on the stove. Check the simmer by putting your ear next to the pot and listening for the bubbling within, and by observing the tiny wisps of steam that should be escaping from around the lid. Do not uncover the pot.
5) Simmer the rice under the tight lid for 15 minutes, then move the pot off the heat, and let it sit undisturbed for 15-20 minutes. Do not open the lid even once; the rice is still at work within, absorbing the steam and plumping to tenderness. (Note that this "waiting" time is a bit longer for Chinese-style rice than is customarily given for American-style long-grain rice. The extra minutes mean extra tenderness and creaminess, which I personally like far better.)
6) When the waiting time is up, lift the lid, then gently fluff the rice with a fork, lifting the grains from the bottom and tossing gently to separate them. Serve the rice immediately, or let it sit in the covered pot where it will stay warm for another 15-20 minutes.
Note: One cup raw rice yields 3 ½ cups cooked rice, generally enough to serve 3 to 4.

Tips on Mobile Maintenance

Tips on Mobile Maintenance

Looking after your mobile helps to ensure it has a long and productive life. There are 8 easy maintenance tips to help you get the best out of your mobile phone. All of the points below should also apply to your battery, charger and any other accessories.

KEEP YOUR MOBILE:

Charged: Ensure your battery is fully charged, and then completely run it down before recharging. Recharging too early causes your battery to run out of power more quickly.

Secure: For security reasons, enable the PIN on your SIM Card and Phone-lock on your phone to avoid unauthorized used. These security checks will also be activated when the phone is power cycled. You can check with your carrier or the phone manual for the features and also for information on blocking your SIM card and phone IMEI number if the phone is stolen. For more information please see the Security Tips located on the AMTA Lost and Stolen website.

Protected: Make sure you use a keypad lock to lock your phone. Unplanned calls can cost a fortune and even though your phone may be in a safe place, such as in a bag, your phone will still get knocked around to a surprising degree. Rough treatment can damage electronic circuit boards so avoid dropping or unnecessarily shaking your phone.

Battery: Be safe with your batteries. Use only genuine batteries from your phone manufacturer and only buy from authorized dealers. Going for the cheap option of a counterfeit battery can be dangerous.

Clean: Don't use harsh detergents, cleaning solvents or harsh chemicals to clean your phone. Wipe only with a soft cloth.

Covered: a protective cover will help repel dust and dirt, and prevent scratches. Make sure the cover you choose is of good quality. Low quality covers with no air pockets can damage you phone by creating humidity inside the cover.

Storing your phone: Always store your phone in a dry place. Avoid rain, high humidity and liquids. All of these may contain minerals that could corrode the electronic circuits.

At the right temperature: To ensure a long life, keep your phone in a stable temperature. Avoid exposing your phone to liquid and/or exposing your phone to extreme temperature change from hot to cold and vice versa. This might create condensation and damage the phone.

Leave about 5 percent of free space on your hard disk

Leave about 5 percent of free space on your hard disk
It seems odd to have space on a hard disk that you should not use, but free space is used for temporary files, setup files, expanding your swap file, etc.... Space that is usually freed up again automatically, but it has to be there. With a hard disk of 10 GB and 5 MB of free space, a standalone Windows computer will not run well.
If you have more than one partition, the 5% rule goes for the partition with the operating system and potentially for partitions with programs and applications. A pure data partition can do without this rule, but you can prevent space problems by not saving anything, or not much, in the root of the partition. (This means that if you have a D:\ partition for saving data, you should not save your document to just D:\, but to a folder on D:\. The advice, by the way, goes for your C:\ drive.)
